The National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela enacted the Organic Law for the Partial Reform of the Organic Law of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice, published in the Extraordinary Official Gazette No. 7,025 on May 22, 2026.
This law establishes the governance, organization, and operation of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ).
Key Aspects. The Constitutional Chamber will consist of seven (7) Justices, while the remaining Chambers will consist of five (5) Justices each.
Permanent Vacancies in Auxiliary Bodies. In the event of a permanent vacancy in the leadership of the auxiliary bodies (General Inspectorate of Tribunals, General Inspectorate of the Public Defense, and National School of Magistrates), the National Assembly will appoint a replacement for a new seven (7) year term.
Appointment of Alternates. Alternates for the leadership of auxiliary bodies will be appointed for a seven (7) year term following the established procedure for appointing alternate Justices to the TSJ.
New Appointments. The National Assembly will appoint the primary and alternate Justices for the new institutional structure of the TSJ, as well as the directors and alternates of the auxiliary bodies.
Entry into Force. This Law entered into force upon its publication in the Extraordinary Official Gazette No. 7,025 on May 22, 2026.
